Can ChatGPT be tamed?

ChatGPT has inspired a bit of a panic among educators who have engaged students in mindless topical research projects in the past since students can now complete such projects in a matter of minutes without spending hours scooping up loads of information, copying and pasting their findings while trying to avoid plagiarism. ChatGPT is showing itself to be thoughtful and generally quite stylish.

In this article Jamie shows how teachers may turn ChatGPT into an ally rather than an enemy by tranforming research topics into questions that are beyond the capabilities of ChatGPT. The student may use ChatGPT to gather background information but must do their own thinking to complete the task.
