Thuggery, Skullduggery and Humbuggery

As the election approaches in the USA, how can so many Americans embrace or ignore thuggery, skullduggery, and humbuggery as they consider their voting choices?

To begin with, those who wrote our Constitution should have included a clause blocking felons from running for president. Someone who tried to reverse the outcome of the last election and pull off a coup d’ętat should not have a second chance to occupy the White House and sow seeds of discord throughout the land. He belongs, instead, in jail.

Character trumps policy

While each candidate’s positions on the issues usually rank high in the decision-making process, during this election the character of the candidates becomes an overwhelming focus. There is no place in the White House for mendacity, narcissism and racism.

For this reason, we see long-term conservative Republicans like Liz Cheney and her father Dick Cheney declaring support for Kamala Harris.

On September 6 CNN reported:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Friday that he will vote for Democrat Kamala Harris over fellow Republican Donald Trump in the November election, warning that the former president “can never be trusted with power again.”

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney said in a statement. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris,” he concluded.

Vote for anyone else or stay home!

Trump's lack of respect for law, truth and decency when combined with his criminal conviction make him unfit for office. If reelected, we will see an end to democracy as we know it.

The New York Times stated the case vividly in July: "Donald Trump Is Unfit to Lead"

He is dangerous in word, deed and action
He puts self over country
He loathes the laws we live by
